Random Thoughts of the Day: November 6th 2019

Speakers are such an interesting pieces of technology. They move air to make sound. And sound is semi simple, but it's pretty cool how they work. I also find it mesmerizing to just watch a speaker that is big and making lots of sound. You can see it vibrating and feel the sound pulsing through you.
There's also the fact that they can be so small, and also get super huge. They all have different qualities, having different ways of pushing certain frequencies, and it's all very interesting to me.

Random Thoughts of the Day: November 5th 2019

So there's this thing in my program in college that is semi controversial. The program is very small, about 10-14 people per year. In the first year class there are two students who have started dating, and many people think they shouldn't be.
Now I have nothing against people going out and trying things etc, but I also see where the concern stems from. If they break up and things go well, or they stay together, then yay, everything is good and life moves on. But let's say they either break up angry, or extremely sad. This leads to lots of tension in their year, which is already only 11 students. They have to work on shows together, be on small teams, be in classes together sometimes for 9 hours a day, and potentially work in groups together. If they don't end things well this could lead to many problems for them, their year, the program, and even some of the shows.
Hopefully that won't happen and nothing dramatic will come of this. But they are young, and they only knew each other for about 3 weeks before they started dating, assuming they didn't know each other before coming to college which I don't think they did.
I know that since of my friend's dorms have a "rule" of no dating until November, and some discourage it completely.
Just a semi controversial thing I've been thinking about.
Also realize this is sort of a re post but I was thinking about this recently because I saw them and it sparked thought.

Update Oct 30th

Hello!
It's been a while! I've been busy at school, and doing tech for shows, and having 12 hours of work a day, and not only has it exhausted me and made me busy but it has also drained my brain.
I will have some posts tonight, but in the meantime, a brief thought in my mind was what is the difference between an artist and a designer?
I feel that in a hobbyist circumstance there isn't much, but when it comes to larger scale, designers are better at the conceptualization of something, the arrangement, the how and the why, whereas artists are more capable of getting that done. They know how to draw, use the software, paint, sculpt, etc. But then comes other forms of art, like music, film, theater, clothing, etc. And those are a whole other deal. It is also fairly subjective what counts as what, but I do believe there is a difference.
Anyways, just some small food for thought, but I just wanted to say I haven't fallen off the edge of the Earth.

Random Thoughts of the Day: September 27th 2019

I've been thinking about how amazing it is that so much data is able to travel on just copper wires. Video, audio, webpages, games, pretty much everything is able to just go from place to place on thing pieces of metal. And then there's wireless technology, which is a whole other seemingly magical feat.
It's weird because I actually spend a decent amount of time dealing with these things, not just using them, and sometimes setting them up, yet I still am often baffled about how crazy it is that we are able to do so much and get so much across with these types of connections. And yes the internet speed may be slower with some, and quality might be less, but it's still able to travel across, and that is just cool.

Random Thoughts of the Day: September 23rd 2019

There are some things in the world that seem so pointless, or so poorly done, but they will probably never be changed. Education, finance, and medical areas are some large examples, but something similar is cities. Most cities are so dense, and this causes lots of congestion, expensive space, and many other issues. Most of this is because cities are pretty old, and there aren't many new ones. If a new city were to be made perhaps it could occupy a larger surface area, so that space could be less of an expensive or rare thing, and then have very efficient public transit so that people could live farther out in the city and be able to get everywhere. A small thought, but living in New York I think about it a lot.

Random Thoughts of the Day: September 20th 2019

There's been lots of talking about first year college students in my program, and how they seem to be immature. On example is how 2 of them have started dating, about 1 week into classes.
One very important thing to keep in mind is that this is a class of ELEVEN. 11 students and 2 of them are dating. If it doesn't work out (which I doubt it will) they will be stuck together for 4 years, or one will have to transfer programs or schools. Or it will divide all 11 of them into 2 groups, or even worse 1 of them will be an outcast, and forced to be an outcast in the small society.
I'm honestly surprised about the fact that they are dating. I feel like it's the classic workplace romance that shouldn't happen. Or dating someone who you live with, or something like that. Especially if you've only known them for a week or two.
Anyways, I just find it odd and pretty stupid.
That was about all for now. Happy Friday!

Random Thoughts of the Day: September 18th 2019

In class I've been looking at contracts and legal agreements, and it just got me thinking about how this world is so difficult to communicate and have a conversation in. People don't agree, don't like to to talk and work together, and have a hard time discussing things without having arguments. The ability to have a discussion, especially business, opinion, money or some other serious matter is so rare, and even more rare to have a civil discussion. I find it weird and interesting because we should work together, but money and selfishness makes if difficult to do so. So yeah, thats that.

Random Thoughts of the Day: September 10th 2019

One thing that's weird to me is the concept of essentially buying your way past airport security. By this I mean buying TSA pre check, or other services that do a background check and then just let you whiz through security. I understand that the background checks are supposedly thorough and make sure you won't do anything bad, and they don't just let you skip security, but I still find it very odd. Just a small one for now but yeah.
